A New Way to Honor Our Veterans

In an effort to better preserve the legacies of our veterans, the VA’s National Cemetery Association (NCA) has launched an online site, the Veteran’s Legacy Memorial. NCA manages more than 140 national cemeteries as a shrine space to honor our National Veterans. This online initiative launched in 2019, creates a profile page available to each of the 3.7 million veterans interred in these cemeteries. On the profile page, friends and family members can write stories, memories, or a tribute message.

NCA’s Veterans Legacy Program (VLP, or “Legacy”) also works with schools, universities, non-profit groups, and any organization who wants to share their mission to tell Veterans’ stories. This effort is leading to exciting connections between young people and the stories of their local veterans. To see examples of Legacy work, you can visit the site of these two Legacy partners: University of Central Florida, https://vlp.cah.ucf.edu/, and University of California-Riverside, https://alongthechaparral.ucr.edu/.

In honor of Veteran’s Day on November 11th, the NCA has presented a Find a Veteran, Post a Tributecampaign. Every day on the NCA Facebook and Twitter platforms they will feature one veteran with a tribute.

Visitors can post a Tribute (a text comment) on a page as a guest user or by logging in as a registered VLM user using an ID.me account. Visitors can also share their Veteran’s VLM page including tributes to email and social media sites Facebook or Twitter by clicking one of the share buttons in the upper right of the Veteran’s tribute page.

This Veterans Month, fill social media with tributes and stories about our great nation's veterans!
